BELGRADE Serbia, and other countries that emerged victorious from the First World War, are this Monday marking Armistice Day. Ceremonies are being held throughout the country, with the central gathering taking place at the memorial in Belgrade dedicated to the capital city's defenders. Serbia marks WW1 Armistice Day It will honor all members of the Serbian Kingdom's armed forces and all innocent victims of the war. Prime Minister Ivica Dacic will attend, along with members of his cabinet, the Serbian Army, the city of Belgrade, and ambassadors and military representatives of Austria, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Greece, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Romania, the Russian Federation, the United States, Slovakia, Britain, France, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic. A statement issued by the government said that the presence of representatives of both Serbia's allies and enemies in the First World War "symbolically pointed out to the need to preserve dignified memories, but also affirm reconciliation and cooperation." President Tomislav Nikolic will on Monday place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Hero on Mt. Avala, near Belgrade. On Sunday, Armistice Day was observed at the Belgrade Fortress with a military ceremony and the VS Guards firing an artillery salvo. Serbia was marking Armistice Day from 1919 until the Second World War. The holiday was officially reinstated in 2011, and is a non-working day. Serbia marks WW1 Armistice Day
