TARA, KURSUMLIJA, SURDULICA Firefighters have managed to stop the fire near the village of Ostrelj on Mt. Tara and residential areas are not threatened anymore. Around 200 hectares of forest burned down near the village of Kremna but the fire has been localized. Firemen put fire on Mt. Tara under control “The firemen managed to stop the fire above Ostrelj, literally ten to 15 meters away from houses and the wind has changed its direction. There are no plans for the evacuation for now even though it seemed like it would be necessary at one point this morning,” Serbian police (MUP) Emergency Situations Sector Chief Predrag Maric has said. A MUP helicopter was used in the operation on Friday, as well as three agricultural planes and a Russian Beriev aircraft. The Serbian government has requested from Russia to send one more Beriev plane and MI 26 helicopter to Serbia and decided to use national air carrier Jat Airways planes in order to put out the wildfires. Fires near the southern Serbian town of Kursumlija, near the Merdare administrative crossing, were extinguished on Saturday morning. “A fire in the southeastern town of Surdulica was put out and nobody was injured,” Maric added. However, a fire that broke out near the northern Kosovo town of Leposavic is spreading toward the central Serbian town of Raska. Around 100 people are out in the field and are trying to localize the fire. A scene from Mt. Tara (Tanjug) B92 Beta Tanjug
