BELGRADE The Serbian Foreign Ministry has recommended Serbian citizens not to travel to Syria due to escalating conflicts in the Middle Eastern country. The Serbian citizens living in Syria have been advised to leave the country. Serbians advised not to travel to Syria The Serbian Embassy in Damascus is still active and it continues to provide all the necessary information to the Serbian citizens who live or are currently located in Syria. The Foreign Ministry pointed out that it would together with the Serbian Embassy continue to monitor the situation in Syria. “A crisis staff has been formed that will, depending on the situation, give new recommendations and clear proposals for reaction of competent state organs aimed at preserving lives, security and interests of our citizens in Syria,” the ministry has stated. “Bearing in mind that there are still air carriers that have regular flights from Damascus, the Foreign Ministry recommends our citizens to use the opportunity and leave Syria,” the ministry pointed out. Around 300 Serbian citizens are currently in Syria. Those are mostly Serbian women married to Syrians and their children, the Foreign Ministry told Tanjug on Thursday. The Serbians mostly live in Damascus and in the northern city of Aleppo. The UN Security Council should vote on a draft resolution on Syria which envisages sanctions against the Syrian regime. Beta

The Serbian Embassy in Damascus is still active and it continues to provide all the necessary information to the Serbian citizens who live or are currently located in Syria.
