19 people die since start of cold snap in Serbia

Around 50,000 people are still snowbound and 19 people have so far died from the cold, Interior Ministry Emergency Situations Sector Head Predrag Marić says.

Around 50,000 people are still snowbound and 19 people have so far died from the cold, Interior Ministry Emergency Situations Sector Head Predrag Maric says. “Around 200 people have been rescued since the beginning of the cold snap in Serbia, but 19 people have unfortunately been found dead in the snow,“ he explained. 19 people die since start of cold snap in Serbia Maric told Radio B92 that roads leading to around 20,000 people whose households had been snowbound and cut off from the world had been cleared last week. “The new snow will certainly slow down mechanization,“ Emergency Situations Sector head added. According to him, food from Commodity Reserves Directorate will be distributed to all municipalities in need on Saturday and Sunday. “Situation on rivers is being monitored and so far there is no need to use icebreakers,” Maric noted. Marić told Radio B92 that roads leading to around 20,000 people whose households had been snowbound and cut off from the world had been cleared last week.

“The new snow will certainly slow down mechanization,“ Emergency Situations Sector head added.

According to him, food from Commodity Reserves Directorate will be distributed to all municipalities in need on Saturday and Sunday.

“Situation on rivers is being monitored and so far there is no need to use icebreakers,” Marić noted.
