Emergency flood defenses have been declared in several towns along the Danube, Sava, Tisa and Tamis rivers. Flood waves have also reached Belgrade. Emergency flood defenses on rivers The warnings concern the Danube River near Novi Sad, Zemun, Pancevo and Smederevo and the Sava River in Belgrade and Sabac. Flood defenses have been stepped up on the Tisa River near Novi Knezevac, Senta, Novi Becej and Titel, in Vojvodina, northern Serbia, as well as on the Tamis River in Jasa Tomic and Secanj, on the Moravica River in Vatin and on the Nera River near the village of Kusici. Water level of the Danube has risen in the municipality of Negotin, eastern Serbia, and there is a risk that households will be flooded, said reports. The municipal crisis headquarters has made a decision to build a defense levee in order to protect the buildings. Groundwater is rising in the municipality of Sombor in the north, but it has not created additional problems so far. Fire-Rescue teams of MUP’s Emergency Situations Sector are pumping water out of yards and gardens in the village of Klajicevo in Sombor municipality. Mud is being removed from the riverbed of the Plazovic River in the village of Ridjica but the situation is under control and is not expected to deteriorate. In Belgrade, the water level of the Sava River has risen near the Nebojsa Tower so teams of the capital city's public water management company are in the field trying to prevent possible flooding of a railway crossing and surrounding streets. They will spend the night working near the tower where the water level is 70 centimeters above the railway crossing level. The teams will work on the preparation of a levee throughout the night in order to prevent flooding of the railway. The city water management company has stepped up field duties since new rainfall and increase in water levels of Sava and Danube have been announced.
