Epidemiologist Predrag Kon has denied reports by certain media outlets that the first case of swine flu has been registered in Serbia. He said that an analysis conducted at the Torlak Institute had dispelled “initial” suspicions that a patient in Zrenjanin has contracted the virus. “No swine flu cases in Serbia” “The new virus has not arrived in Serbia, while it is present in most of the surrounding region. It is very possible that it exists in Serbia, but that we have not uncovered it yet. Initial suspicions have surfaced several times already—we are checking them out almost every three, four days, and working with laboratory research in order to banish any doubts that we are dealing with the A H1N1 virus,” Kon said. The Health Ministry has released a list of contact numbers of local epidemiologists in Serbia that can be contacted for any questions related to the flu.
