The Association of Serbian Jewish Municipalities (SJOS) pointed to "frequent attempts at minimizing the pogrom of Jews in the Jasenovac". This Second World War concentration camp was run by the puppet Nazi Independent State of Croatia (NDH). Jasenovac was death, not labor camp Some sources in Croatia claim that Jasenovac was a labor camp managed by Jews, not the largest death camp in the region that it truly was, SJOS said. Such claims are a part of an anti-Semitic campaign of puppet regimes in some states created in the territory of the former Yugoslavia and in some European states, SJOS President Aleksandar Necak told Tanjug. Jews from the present territory of Serbia were taken to Jasenovac and put to death there, he said. The present Jasenovac Museum does not present a true picture of the plight, but depicts the site as a labor camp, he noted. Letters were addressed in this regard to the Museum head Natasa Jovicevic and Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, but there was no answer to the first, while Mesic transferred responsibility to the Croatian Ministry of Culture, which has not responded, Necak said. The memorial museum lists the names and data on 75,159 persons who perished there at he hands if Ustasha killers. However, the figures given by various sources range from 80,000 to 700,000 victims, most of them Serbs, but also Jews and Romas.
