Student Games budget cut

The 2009 Student Games in Belgrade will be organized on a high level, Deputy PM Bozidar Djelic said on Friday. This, Djelic assured, will come despite the fact that the sporting event’s budget is now four times less than initially planned. Student Games budget cut Djelic, who also chairs the Organizing Committee, made the statements at a meeting of the Committee for Youth and Sports of the Serbian Parliament on Friday. He underscored that the next step towards “a fantastic organization of the Student Games and affirmation of our country” will be to adopt a budget of RSD 4.3bn (some EUR 50mn). According to Djelic, an important test will be the planned inspection by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) commission, due in late November. “Serbia is a poor country and that is why it is necessary to adjust to her own financial capacity,” concluded Djelic, adding that all disputable contracts, signed by the earlier leadership of the Universiade Belgrade 2009 company, had been cancelled.
