Petrol tanker explodes in Pančevo

Two people have died, and one has been seriously injured when an oil cistern exploded in Starcevo, near Pancevo, on Friday. Zoran Kosovic from Starcevo died in the blast, while Djura K. from the same place suffered serious injuries and was transferred to the Intensive Care unit in Belgrade, where he later died, announced Pancevo Police spokeswoman Tanja Dojcinovic. There were was a little bit of oil and petrol left in the cistern, which the investigation will show. The investigation is still under way and we hope it will determine who was responsible for this accident,” said Dojcinovic. A fire broke out in the cistern after the explosion, and firemen had to intervene. The explosion was so strong that it threw Djura K. over the house into the neighbouring garden, according to witnesses. The blast smashed windows and dislodged roof-tiles in surrounding buildings in the gardens of the victim and his neighbours.
