Media: Serbia was told: "You have a few days left..."

Diplomatic sources confirmed to RFE/RL that Pristina and Belgrade are expected this week to declare the demands made by the "Big Five" during their recent visit to Serbia and the so-called Kosovo.

The EU Special Representative for Dialogue Miroslav Lajčak, the American envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar, as well as the chief advisers of the leaders of France, Germany and Italy visited Pristina and Belgrade on October 21 and on that occasion met with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.

The specific details of the demands made by the "Big Five" during these meetings are not known.

Informed RSE sources mention that the request for the so-called Kosovo mainly refers to the acceptance of the formation of the Community of Municipalities with a Serbian majority, and for Serbia the unconditional fulfillment of obligations from the Agreement on the Road to Normalization of Relations, including the annex to the implementation of this agreement, which was agreed on March 18 in Ohrid. According to diplomatic sources, the so-called Prime Minister Kosovo and the president of Serbia have "only a few days" to declare whether they accept the demands.

This is the reason why the possibility of a meeting between Kurti and Vučić in Brussels by the end of this week is not ruled out. This meeting and possible progress in the form of any agreement between the parties should take place before the summit of the leaders of the member states of the European Union, which will be held on October 26 and 27.

If that meeting is successful, then the conclusions at the end of the EU summit would also include a message about Serbia's dialogue and the so-called Kosovo. On the eve of a possible meeting of the leaders, the so-called Kosovo and Serbia will be the subject of discussion in a series of meetings at the EU level.

Ministers of foreign affairs of the EU member states are discussing the normalization process of Serbia and the so-called Kosovo at the meeting in Luxembourg. At that meeting, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, will speak about relations between Pristina and Belgrade.

The day before the possible meeting of the leaders, on October 25, the European mediator for dialogue Miroslav Lajčak will also submit a report to the ambassadors of the EU countries. By that day, it should already become clear whether the parties have accepted the demands of the international community, reports Kosovo Online.
