"We expect to move up on WB's Doing Business List"

"Before that, from 2008 to 2012, public debt grew from 28 to 56 percent, which needed to be stopped, he said and added that that shift was made by introducing new laws, such as the Labor Law, but also with other difficult and unpopular measures that contributed to the fiscal stabilization of the country," he said, as quoted by the Serbian government.

"Owing to those moves, Serbia went up by 44 places on the World Bank’s Doing Business list," Vucic said, and announced an increase in salaries and pensions, as well as reduction in income tax and contributions - "but pointed out that that needs to be done cautiously to avoid disrupting financial stability."

"By reducing income tax and contributions, we are making an even better environment for foreign companies. All large Serbian employers insisted on it," he said, stating that he hoped the country's
unemployment rate would be at the EU level of 10.5 percent by the end of 2018, and adding that "the state will do everything in accordance with its capabilities to help people from the gray and black zones to be moved to the white zone and thus encourage hiring."

Vucic expects "additional inflow of foreign investments in Serbia - but this requires political stability in the region."

"We need not only internal political stability, but also in the region and we will do our best to help achieve that," the prime minister said, and announced he would travel to Sarajevo and participate in a meeting of prime ministers of the countries of the Western Balkans.
