Pristina extends mandate of EU mission in Kosovo

Beta agency is reporting that the continuation of the mission will be secured by an exchange of letters between Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.

This exchange of letters will come in effect once two thirds of deputies in the Assembly of Kosovo ratify it.

The authorities in Kosovo were unwilling to extend EULEX's mandate under its current powers, and wanted the mission to have only an advisory role in the areas of justice and police.

The agency is reporting today that the public will learn what has been agreed in the new agreement once the document has been ratified in the Assembly of Kosovo.
