In the budget proposal for 2016, the Serbian government has decreased revenues meant for the province of Vojvodina by 40 percent.

Budget undermines health care in Vojvodina - Democrats

The Democrats said the budget cuts would primarily affect the functioning of those health institutions whose founder is the provincial government.

A DS statement said there was poor planning of the funding to be received by the Provincial Secretariat for Health, Social and Demographic Policy, and that this concerns existing but also new programs, "which are of great importance for (disease) prevention and treatment of residents of Vojvodina."

"The Provincial Secretariat in 2016 will not have enough funds for capital investment in those health institutions that it founded, while it is especially devastating that with the budget cuts the government prevents the province from intervening in emergencies, such as procurement of X-ray tubes, emergency repairs of equipment and installations in institutions, as well as replacement of obsolete equipment," the statement said.

The party added that this move of the government "will directly decrease the quality and timely delivery of health services in Vojvodina, creating new waiting lists and great dissatisfaction."
