President Tomislav Nikolic has said that he expects the UNESCO Executive Board of UNESCO on Kosovo's membership "not to be good for Serbia."

"Executive Board decision won't be good for Serbia"

Nikolic has also been quoted as saying that "the state will continue to fight against the admission of Kosovo, and will await the General Assembly of UNESCO in November, at which Serbia will try to convince the whole world to postpone the adoption of such a decision until 2017."

"We want to shift that to the talks in Brussels, so that Albanians no longer cheat us by going to every organization they can join by outvoting, and avoiding to reach agreements on it," the president said.

The UNESCO Executive Board will vote this afternoon in Paris on a draft recommendation for admission of Kosovo as a member.

The Executive Board has 58 members, 32 of which recognized Kosovo, while 20 have supported the membership bid submitted by Albania. Decisions are taken by a majority vote.

Serbian Ambassador to UNESCO Darko Tanaskovic said ahead of the meeting that Serbia "could not change this unfavorable ratio," but said he expected the session to show there is a considerable number of countries that are reserved or oppose Pristina's admission.

Beta said in its report that if today's session of the Executive Board passes the recommendation to make Kosovo a member, the final decision will be made by the General Conference of UNESCO, to be held November 3-18.

The General Conference consists of representatives from 195 member countries. Each member country has one vote, and a decision requires a two-thirds majority.
