BELGRADE Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic has said that he expected "a more explicit expression of regret" from his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu. This concerns Davutoglu's comments regarding a statement about Kosovo made by Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which has had a negative effect on Serbian-Turkish ties. FM expected "more explicit regret" from Turkish counterpart Mrkic was reacting to Davutoglu's statement that Ankara will not apologise to Serbia over Erdogan's statement that "Turkey is Kosovo and Kosovo is Turkey", as it contained "no insults, but only positive sentiments." Mrkic told Tanjug that he appreciates the fact that Davutoglu's has proposed an interview to the Serbian media to clarify the statement. "I also respect his statements that Turkey wants to develop the best possible ties with Serbia, as well as his position that Turkey and Serbia are key partners for peace and security in our broader region," he said. This is also in line with Serbia's principled position, because "comprehensive and developed cooperation with countries in the region is one of the most significant foreign policy priorities for us," Mrkic said. He, however, noted that Erdogan's statement, made in October last year, has definitely had a negative effect on bilateral relations. "I therefore expected my counterpart Davutoglu to express regret over that statement and the resulting consequences in a more explicit way," Mrkic concluded. Ivan Mrkic (MFA, file) Tanjug
