Austrian Ambassador Johannes Eigner says his country is willing to back the decision on formal initiation of Serbia's EU accession talks by the end of the year.

BELGRADE Austrian Ambassador Johannes Eigner says his country is willing to back the decision on formal initiation of Serbia's EU accession talks by the end of the year. Eigner announced that the talks on the negotiating framework are underway and that the officials are discussing the manner to incorporate the issue of the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina into that framework. He underscored that local elections in Kosovo scheduled for November 3 represent a part of the puzzle in the normalization process. Eigner said that Austria expects and hopes the two governments would contribute to staging the elections in keeping with regularities, Eigner said. The Austrian ambassador said that he expects the EU report to commend Serbia on the progress it made last year in the implementation of structural reforms and taking determining steps in the normalization of relations with Pristina.
