Govt. adopts measures to alleviate drought The plan includes freeing agricultural producers of a number of obligations towards the government. "The measures will be adopted at a government meeting on Thursday,” Dacic stated, the government office for media relations released. “Besides that, the government will intervene on the market, and there are plans for subsidies in livestock farming,” the prime minister stressed. Besides Dacic, the meeting at the government headquarters was attended by Agriculture Minister Goran Knezevic, Finance and Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic, Trade Minister Rasim Ljajic and Vojvodina Executive Council Deputy President Goran Jesic. “The Agriculture Ministry will on Thursday put forward to the Serbian government draft measures for easing the catastrophic consequences of the drought, for which EUR 12-15bn will be earmarked,” Knezevic said on Thursday. “The proposed measures are divided in three sections, and would have been much more generous, if the ministry had not happened to be in such a catastrophic situation in terms of finance,”,he said, explaining that the measures were “the maximum of the maximum”, maybe even exceeding the capacity of the state and government at the moment. Knezevic said that at Wednesday's meeting the Agriculture Ministry received assurances from relevant ministries that they would secure the money by redistributing the budget funds in a more rational way, and noted that the budget review was expected on September 15. He specified that the three sections relate to relieving farmers of some financial obligations, or delaying them, adequate intervention in the market, stable supply and prices, as well as to direct financial assistance for farmers through the increase in certain incentives. Knezevic called on farmers to back the efforts put in by the ministries and government, as well as proposed measures, as they were rational and only feasible solution at the moment. Tanjug
