Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic still has not accepted anyone’s offer to form the next Serbian government. “Why would we be in somebody else’s government if we can run it,” he wonders. SPS leader yet to decide on Progressives' offer Dacic says that the key problem is the position of the SPS-led government on the new government. “I have not accepted any offer or a proposal, we have only acknowledged it and the party’s organs will make a decision,” he told reporters in Belgrade on Wednesday. The SPS leader added that the decision would be made soon. “I have requested that the SPS leadership and other parties in the coalition (the Party of United Pensioners of Serbia and United Serbia) decide on the government without me,” Dacic explained and added that to him it was not the most important thing to be a prime minster. When asked whether he would accept the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) offer, he said that the forming of the government was an issue that needed to be decided as soon as possible. “Why would we be in somebody else’s government if we can run it,” the SPS leader noted, stressing that it did not mean that he had accepted the SNS’ offer and that “it is a serious issue that the SPS is discussing, because the official offer was received several days ago”. When asked if he had requested from Democratic Party (DS) leader Boris Tadic to be the next prime minister, Dacic said that it would not be fair to Tadic. He explained, however, that Serbia’s political profile after the second round of the presidential elections had changed and that it was clear that “there is no two-party Serbia”. The SPS leader said that not a single politician would mull over it this long but that he was trying to be fair to the DS and its leader. “No decision will be made without the knowledge our coalition partners. This is a historical opportunity for our coalition to define its political profile so it is one of the three most important factors in Serbia, anything else will be the continuation of a two-party Serbia,” he concluded.
