European Union (EU) Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule says Brussels wants "continued good relations between the EU and Serbia". The EU expects a speedy formation of a new government in Belgrade, he told Belgrade newspaper Vecernje Novosti. EU expects "speedy formation of Serbian government" Fule, who is to attend the inauguration of Serbia's new President Tomislav Nikolic on Monday, stressed that the EU expects that the new president and government will continue to work on the EU-related reforms, especially in the domain of judiciary and the fight against corruption and organized crime. According to Fule, Brussels expects all Serbian politicians to speak and act in a responsible way, and contribute to the regional reconciliation. Commenting on the fact that Boris Tadic "has great prospects for becoming the prime minister", Fule said: "Whoever becomes the new prime minister, we are looking forward to cooperating with him or her. As regards the previous president, the cooperation between Boris Tadic and EU institutions was excellent." Fule also said he encouraged Nikolic and the future Serbian government to continue down the path of European integration, determined to make more progress which would enable the European Commission to recommend opening accession talks. The EU expects Serbia to make further progress in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, with a view to achieving "a visible and sustainable improvement in relations", said Fule. Asked whether the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue would resume soon, Fule noted it was expected to resume as soon as possible. "It is also important to implement the already reached agreements. This is one of the key reasons why a new government needs to be formed quickly," said he. Stefan Fule (Beta, file) Tanjug Vecernje novosti
