EU’s stance on Serbia’s candidate status is slightly more positive than in December, Serbian parliament's EU Integration Committee Chairman Laslo Varga says. He added that it was possible that the EU “will cut Serbia some slack”. EU stance on Serbia “now more positive” Varga believes that Serbia will most likely have to “give in” when it comes to Kosovo’s regional representation and UN Security Council Resolution 1244, if not ahead of the decision on the candidate status then in the following months and next phases of the accession process. “This is a possible scenario, that for numerous political, security reasons, for the sake of the EU stability, the most influential members will cut us some slack, but that they would return to the issue in the next step. This problem is huge because you have countless steps and you can choose in which step you want to solve the issue and it refers to the representation and the implementation of the agreements reached so far,” he explained. The European Integration Committee chairman noted that just like with any other agreement it was possible to find a solution that could be interpreted in two ways. “This is obviously an issue in which one side will have to give in regarding Resolution 1244 and this is why the issue is difficult and hard to solve,” Varga pointed out. According to him, it is obvious that the EU accession process will be difficult until the entire Kosovo issue is resolved. B92
