The "Together for Sumadija" coalition announced on Wednesday that its MPs would leave the Serbian parliament. The reason for their decision is the fact that “different independent and regulatory bodies are redrawing citizens’ election will”. Two Serbian MPs announce resignations Together for Sumadija MPs Veroljub Stevanovic and Sasa Milenic, who make a unique MP group together with the United Regions of Serbia (URS), have decided to resign. The MPs resigned due to implementation of a law that does not allow officials to hold more than two offices. Together for Sumadija has announced that it “is defending parliamentary democracy in a demonstrative manner”. In letters to parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic and the parliament secretary general the two MPs pointed out that state institutions and independent regulatory bodies’ pressure on parliament represented a coup and that it was an anti-Constitutional act based on retroactive implementation of the law. Milenic told a press conference that candidates from the URS’ electoral list would replace them in parliament. The coalition led by Kragujevac Mayor Stevanovic has been opposing the Anti-Corruption Agency’s decision according to which officials cannot hold more than one office. Parliament’s Administrative Committee has given its consent to Stevanovic and Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanovic to hold two posts. Stevanovic is allowed to remain Sumadija and Western Serbia Regional Development Council president, while Bogdanovic will continue to perform his duties as the Kosovo Regional Development Council president.
