The Belgrade authorities will have to prove that they are doing everything they can to arrest Hague indictee Ratko Mladic, said Dutch MP Harry van Bommel. Van Bommel, Dutch parliament’s European Affairs Committee deputy president, has said that this issue should not halt Serbia’s progress on the European path. “Belgrade must prove it’s willing to arrest Mladic” He explained that some Dutch MPs would certainly point out that it is going to be necessary that Mladic is on the plane to The Hague before Serbia takes the next step toward the EU membership. Van Bommel also added that he did not agree with such a position and stressed that the Netherlands should not try to “cover up its failure in Srebrenica by asking Serbia to do the impossible”.
