Serbia will continue to fight against organized crime, President Boris Tadic said, calling on neighboring countries to join the fight. Tadic said that Serbia expects that the countries of the region that are not as dedicated to the fight against corruption to increase their cooperation and efforts. Tadic asks neighboring countries for cooperation “Serbia will continue to fight against organized crime regardless of all the obstacles we are facing and we expect all regional countries to contribute to the fight against organized crime as much as Serbia is contributing,” Tadic said. “We expect all regional countries to be serious in relation to this. Serbia will continue the fight against the narco-cartel. This criminal organization is a threat to the national security of Serbia and a threat to the security of the citizens. It is our constitutional obligation, our international obligation, and our political decision,” Tadic said. He said that the fact that the international community has no reaction to the fact that other countries of the regional are not as dedicated to the fight is indicative, adding that the issue will be addressed in talks with international officials, because it is a problem that is important to the European Union as well. As far as the political situation in the country is concerned, Tadic said that there will be no new parliamentary elections announced until 2012, because that is what the majority of the Serbian citizens want, and because the state has “more important tasks than organizing new elections.” Boris Tadic (Tanjug archive)
