Serbia’s EU integration will not be any threat to Russia—on the contrary, Russia will only benefit from it, says President Boris Tadic. “We are going to be Russia’s best friend in the EU. Stating that Serbia had aspirations to become an EU member, Tadic stressd that that did not mean having to choose between East and West, the Interfax agency reports. “I don’t see any danger in our joining the EU,” said the Serbian president. He says that an important facet of cooperation between Russia and Serbia was energy and that Serbia was satisfied with “the way Gazpromneft is handling the modernization of NIS.” He pointed out that Serbia’s neighbors also aspired to the EU, which, he said, would open up new markets for Gazprom.
