European Parliamentary Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin has welcomed the latest report of the European Commission on Serbia. He stressed that it was “comprehensive, balanced and accurate,“ adding that the Serbian government should be commended for its decisiveness in the process of European integration. Rapporteur gives thumbs-up to EC report “In a number of areas, Serbia has prepared legislative proposals in keeping with EU standards, made progress in combating corruption and organized crime, and in the protection of women and children,“ read a statement released by Kacin's cabinet. At the same time, Kacin noted that there were still shortcomings in practice, highlighting, among other things, that the Statute of Vojvodina was still blocked and that the Serbian government was continuing to finance parallel structures in Kosovo and organize parallel elections, despite the fact that it had established cooperation with EULEX. He also underscored that no progress had been made in returning seized assets and that hate speech was still present. The rapporteur welcomed EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn's call to unblock the Interim Trade Agreement between the EU and Serbia, but also pointed out that the Union and the world were still waiting for Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic to be extradited to the Hague Tribunal.
