The ruling coalition’s agreement to cut the number of government ministries has been postponed until the end of the year, daily Blic writes. Quoting sources close to the government, the daily states that the entire issue will be postponed until Interior Minister and Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic clears issues up within his own party, with no SPS officials willing to give up their ministries. “Ministry mergers on hold” The daily states that the officials in question, especially those with strong links to the late party leader Slobodan Milosevic and his hard core of voters, are not prepared to surrender their positions. The initiative to cut the number of government ministries has been put on ice over fears within the ruling coalition, especially the Democratic Party (DS), that this could lead to the creation of a minority government, the daily writes.
