Serbia, France "to upgrade military cooperation"

Serbia and France wish to raise their military cooperation to a higher level, Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac stated on Wednesday. Sutanovac added that France had forwarded “a message that Europe needs Serbia as much as Serbia needs Europe”. Serbia, France "to upgrade military cooperation" “Our wish to raise the cooperation to a higher level was met with understanding,” Sutanovac, who has met in Paris with French Secretary of State for Defense Jean-Marie Bockel, told Tanjug. The Serbian delegation proposed to Bockel to sign an agreement on cooperation in the defense sector. The agreement, a draft of which was handed to France's representatives, would be “a legal basis for different military cooperation and a confirmation of an aspiration towards a stronger cooperation,” said Sutanovac. They also discussed education of Serbia's Military Academy officers and students in France, as well as training of Serbian Army "special purpose units". France is interested in taking part in an air show that Serbia wishes to organize next year and for which it seeks supports from a number of countries, it was also revealed on Wednesday.
