Aleksandar Vucic will be appointed deputy leader of Tomislav Nikolic’s new party, writes daily Novosti. The daily writes that those close to former Serb Radical Party (SRS) deputy leader Tomislav Nikolic are convinced that the former SRS secretary-general will return to politics on the day of the formation of Nikolic’s new party, Forward Serbia. Vucic likely new Nikolic party deputy? Unofficially, the position of the new party’s secretary-general could also go to Vucic’s SRS deputy Nebojsa Stefanovic or to Bozidar Delic, who, along with Nikolic, was among the first to speak up against SRS policy. The party’s vice presidents will most probably be Jorgovanka Tabakovic and former head of the SRS Novi Sad board Igor Mirovic. SRS Vice President Gordana Pop Lazic told the daily that Vucic was still a member of the SRS. UK Ambassador to Belgrade Steven Wordsworth said that Europe would accept the new party, providing that it fully acknowledged that Serbia’s future as a stable European democracy lay in cooperation with its neighbors. He added that the positive effects of Serbia’s EU integration had led to the pro-EU evolution of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), once led by Slobodan Milosevic, but which the European Union now supported. Meanwhile, former Novi Sad Mayor and former SRS Vice President Maja Gojkovic says that she will not be joining Nikolic’s party, because she intends to form a party of her own. She told B92 that the name of the party had not been decided yet. “Anything’s possible in politics, but I’d have to see what kind of party that is. Will it be a party that says that it will keep the SRS ideology alive, or will it be something new,” said Gojkovic, commenting on media speculation that she might join Nikolic’s party.
