EU High Representative Javier Solana says the EU is very glad at the decision to call presidential elections in Serbia. In Brussels, ahead of a meeting of EU leaders, Solana said he supported the move, and reiterated the importance of the issue of Kosovo’s status. Fitzgerald added that “at the moment there are enough troops on the ground to protect the Kosovo people,” pointing out that KFOR had reinforced its 16,000-strong contingent in order to have a better grip on the security situation. He said that the province was entering an extremely delicate stage in its history. “December 10 has come and gone, the UN Security Council is due to discuss the matter, and we intend to continue to preserve security in Kosovo in order for the process to continue. I want to assure all Kosovo’s citizens of this,” Fitzgerald stressed. Javier Solana at the Brussels summit (Tanjug)
