The Danish battalion, deployed in Kosovska Mitrovica, yesterday issued a warning to potential troublemakers. "KFOR will not show any tolerance toward shooting incidents or use of weapons near camp Olaf Re, or the multiethnic areas in town," a statement from the battalion, deployed as part of KFOR MND North-East in the south of the town, said. KFOR: Resolute and direct reaction to provocation "Any use of weapons is illegal and carries with it the consequences. If the shooting is aimed at KFOR property or personnel, KFOR is ready and resolved to react directly, without hesitating or waiting for the Kosovo Police Service [KPS]," the statement said. "Shootings in multiethnic zones can in time lead to breaches of security and safety in the surrounding areas, therefore KFOR will react while incidents are still in progress," the statement, carried by Tanjug news agency on Friday, said. "In the future, shooting near camp Olaf Re and in multinational areas will be closely monitored," the KFOR statement ends. The south of Kosovska Mitrovica is controlled by ethnic Albanians, while the north is inhabited by Kosovo Serbs. Additionally, a number of Albanians, Bosniaks and other ethnic groups live in one neighborhood in the north of the town. The Ibar River divides the town setting the general ethnic division, and the bridges over it have been hotspots for trouble in the past. (Photo: BBC)
