EU confirms SAA talks will resume June 13

"I encourage Serbia to continue improving its cooperation with the Tribunal in The Hague, to ensure that all remaining indictees are brought to justice, thus achieving lasting reconciliation in the Western Balkans," the Barroso statement said.

After yesterday’s meeting with Serbian operatives in charge of implementing the government’s Action Plan for cooperation with the Hague Tribunal, Chief Prosecutor Carla Del Ponte spoke with EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn on the phone, after telling journalists, “I’ll go and do something nice for Serbia now.”

As a result, unofficial sources said earlier that Rehn would announce the date for renewed Stabilization and Association talks between Serbia and the EU by the end of the day.

Del Ponte is on a four-day visit to Belgrade that ends tomorrow.

On the last day of her stay, Del Ponte visited slain Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić’s grave, to pay respects to the man she referred to as her friend, and someone who fought for Serbia’s European future.

In an exclusive interview with B92 Wednesday, Del Ponte said she recognized the political will on the part of state officials in Belgrade to apprehend and extradite Hague indictees, and added that her report to the UN Security Council would be positive.
