Lajčak won't push for unitary Bosnia
“It is impossible to think that these things can be imposed. That is why initiatives that ignore the stances and interests of the third party are doomed to fail,” Lajčak told Slovakian news agency SITA.Lajčak, who has gained a lot of political experience in the Balkans, is set to take over as the EU’s highest official in Bosnia-Herzegovina on July 1.
He said that his main goal will be to focus on European integration and moving towards the European Union.
“Bosnia is the most expensive country today, when you compare expenses with the GDP. Reforms are unavoidable,” Lajčak said.
He said that only solutions that are acceptable to all three sides, the Muslim, Croat and Serb communities in Bosnia, will be implemented.
“Bosnia must be multiethnic like it was before. The ambition is for all citizens to identify with the country, to feel good in it, to fulfill the goals of individuals and the ethnic groups,” Lajčak said.
He reminded that Bosnia-Herzegovina must complete cooperation with the Hague Tribunal in order to sign the EU Stabilization and Association Agreement.
