USAID continues to aid Serbia
The Mayors of eleven municipalities selected to participate in the Foreign and Domestic Investment Promotion project signed Memoranda of Understanding with US Ambassador to Serbia Michael C. Polt. The project will be implemented as part of USAID’s Municipal Economic Growth Activity (MEGA)The SCOPES project was designed to strengthen human security in vulnerable areas of Serbia by expanding economic opportunities. The SCOPES strategy also places special emphasis on assisting the young people of Serbia.
The SCOPES project announced its first major activity, a business plan competition titled “Realizing Your Dream”. The competition which will take place over the next six months, is a first step to identify businesses with opportunities, support their growth and help local entrepreneurs realize their ambitions. Winners will receive a combination of investment, training, technical assistance and mentoring to implement their plans.
According to Michael Polt, the SCOPES program is set to last five years and pull 20 million dollars of US investment. First projest slated for direct finacing will be selected in May.
“Serbian citizens say they need new jobs, and we are here to help them”, the US Ambassador said.
Pećinci, Šabac, Čačak, Kraljevo, Arilje, Prijepolje, Pančevo, Vršac, Smederevo, Paraćin and Leskovac have been included into MEGA (Municipal Economic Growth Activity) program.
