Three members of Kosovo police, KPS, were injured while apparently trying to apprehend Albin Kurti, KPS spokesman Baki Kelani stated. “Based on the information they had, around 17:30 (on Monday) in Pristina police tried to pull over a vehicle in which, according to our information, was a person for whom the court had issued an arrest warrant. The vehicle did not stop and three police officers were injured on the occasion,” the spokesman said. Kurti is the leader of the radical ethnic Albanian Self-Determination Movement. Two people died in 2007 during protests organized by his movement. The court has so far failed eight times to insure the defendant's presence at the trial. In another development, no lawyer in Kosovo accepted to defend Kurti due to the pressure from the public. In a report on Tuesday, Tanjug says that a clash between police and activists the Self-Determination Movement in Pristina on Monday resulted in the arrests of several members of the movement, while some were wounded, and one person suffered serious injuries. Police intended to arrest Kurti, the leader of the movement, in order to make him face court, after he refused to appear at a hearing. As a result, an arrest warrant against him was issued. The police intervened after a funeral of a father of one of the activists at a Muslim cemetery in Pristina, but did not manage to arrest Kurti, whose hearing before the District Court of Pristina was suspended as he failed to appear in court. In the clashes, police used tear gas and arrested seven members of the movement. The majority of them was injured and transferred to hospital. One of the injured is in a critical condition, the Pristina-based media reported.
