The prosecution and defense in the Ovcara war crimes trial are expected to give their closing statements in Belgrade today. The trial is scheduled to continue before the Belgrade District Court’s War Crimes Chamber. In the initial process, 14 persons were found guilty of 1991 crimes committed against Croats and sentenced to prison terms. Closing arguments expected in Ovcara trial The members of the Vukovar Territorial Defense were accused of executing about 200 Croatian prisoners between November 20-21, 1991, as the trial restarted in March 2007 after the Serbian Supreme Court abolished the initial verdict. 17 suspects stand accused of war crimes, including Vukovar TO commander Miroljub Vujovic, his deputy Stanko Vujanovic, paramilitary unit commander Milan Lancuzanin and soldiers Predrag Milojevic, Predrag Dragovic, Djordje Sosic, Miroslav Djankovic, Ivan Atanasijevic and Sasa Radak. In the first trial, all were found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Under the ruling overturned by the Supreme Court in December 2006, Vujo Zlatar, Milan Vojinovic and Jovica Peric were sentenced to 15 years behind bars, Predrag Madzarac to 12, Nada Kalaba, the only woman among the accused, to nine years, and Goran Mugos to five years in prison. Marko Ljuboja and Slobodan Katic were cleared in the original trial. As of June 2008, Milorad Pejic, a British citizen, was also added to the indictment and criminal proceedings after he was arrested at the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport.

17 suspects stand accused of war crimes, including Vukovar TO commander Miroljub Vujović, his deputy Stanko Vujanović, paramilitary unit commander Milan Lančužanin and soldiers Predrag Milojević, Predrag Dragović, Đorđe Šošić, Miroslav Đanković, Ivan Atanasijević and Saša Radak.

In the first trial, all were found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Under the ruling overturned by the Supreme Court in December 2006, Vujo Zlatar, Milan Vojinović and Jovica Perić were sentenced to 15 years behind bars, Predrag Madžarac to 12, Nada Kalaba, the only woman among the accused, to nine years, and Goran Mugoš to five years in prison.

Marko Ljuboja and Slobodan Katić were cleared in the original trial.

As of June 2008, Milorad Pejić, a British citizen, was also added to the indictment and criminal proceedings after he was arrested at the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport.
