Retired Yugoslav People's Army, JNA, Vice Admiral Miodrag Jokic will soon be released from prison. Jokic has served two thirds of the seven-year sentence the Hague Tribunal handed down for shelling Dubrovnik in the winter of 1991. Hague grants early release to JNA admiral Hague Tribunal President Fausto Pocar granted Jokic's request for early release, having reviewed with the other judges a report by the Danish prison management on the convict's good behavior during his time in jail. Explaining his decision, Pocar says that even before he received the sentence, Jokic demonstrated that he wanted to "be rehabilitated" by pleading guilty and showing remorse and regret and by "honestly cooperating with the prosecution". The tribunal sentenced Jokic in March 2004, after he pleaded guilty in the summer of 2003 to the shelling of Dubrovnik's old quarter from positions held by the Yugoslav People's Army around the town. The shelling left two civilians dead on Dec. 6, 1991. At the time, Jokic was commander of the Military Marine Sector of Boka and the highest ranking Yugoslav People's Army officer in the region. Jokic turned himself in to the Hague tribunal on Nov. 12, 2001 and was released from pre-trial detention on Feb. 20, 2002.
