Kosovo journalist to face Hague trial

Journalist Baton Haxhiu has been extradited to The Hague, where he is awaiting trial for charges of contempt of court in the case of Ramush Haradinaj.

Journalist Baton Haxhiu has been extradited to The Hague, where he is awaiting trial for charges of contempt of court in the case of Ramush Haradinaj. The indictment states that in 2007 Haxhiu, when editor-in-chief of daily Express, published the name of a protected witness in the Hague Tribunal war crimes case against Haradinaj. Kosovo journalist to face Hague trial The Kosovo Police Service (KPS) confirmed that the journalist had been arrested yesterday and extradited to the Dutch capital. “The orders from the Tribunal were carried out at 14:00 CET, and Haxhiu was transferred to The Hague on a regular flight,” the police stated. Former Kosovo Culture Mminister Astrit Haraqija and his political advisor Bajrush Morina are accused of the same crime as Haxhiu. Haxhiu’s first court appearance is scheduled for today, where he is due to submit his plea.

The Kosovo Police Service (KPS) confirmed that the journalist had been arrested yesterday and extradited to the Dutch capital.

“The orders from the Tribunal were carried out at 14:00 CET, and Haxhiu was transferred to The Hague on a regular flight,” the police stated.

Former Kosovo Culture Mminister Astrit Haraqija and his political advisor Bajrush Morina are accused of the same crime as Haxhiu.

Haxhiu’s first court appearance is scheduled for today, where he is due to submit his plea.
