An ethnic Serb sought by Croatia on a war crimes indictment was arrested at the Canadian – U.S. border. The man, identified as Goran Pavic, was detained on a valid Interpol arrest warrant, agencies reported Saturday. Croatian MUP has confirmed that Pavic was detained, and added he was placed in detention pending extradition, which Croatia is yet to formally demand. The District Prosecution in Vukovar indicted Pavic in May 2006, along with a group of others, for war crimes allegedly committed between October 1991 and April 1992, after Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) and paramilitaries occupied Sotin, "setting up occupational authorities with the goal of ethnically cleansing the town," according to the indictment. The group then murdered, intimidated, imprisoned, and robbed Croats, the prosecution said, adding that 35 civilians from the area are still unaccounted for.
