Bill on alcoholic beverages adopted in parliament

"Until now individuals could not be legally involved in the production and trading of brandy. They will be able to do it without complicated procedures," Agriculture Minister Snezana Boskovic Bogosavljevic said.

The law's aim is the liberalization of conditions for production of alcoholic beverages, which is expected to lead to a reduction in the costs of production and thus to an increase in the number of registered producers.

The government expects that the new law will have a positive impact on the development of primary production of fruit as a raw material for the brandy production.

The previous law allowed only legal entities, i.e., registered companies, to produce and sell brandy, while the new legislation allows farming households to also legally sell brandy - but via a "processing and finishing company."
