Citizens would submit fiscal receipts as proof, he explained, and added that he will "personally, in the street" on Friday launch the government's campaign dubbed "My Serbia", aimed at motivating Serbian tourists to spend "at least a part of their vacation" in the homeland.

"We will hand out brochures about Serbia's tourist destinations. Some of them are more beautiful that any destination in other European countries. The idea is not to take away anyone's freedom to vacation abroad, but to point out to the fact that we, too, have a beautiful country, something we are often not aware of," said Vucic.

Unofficial data shows that Serbians spend about EUR 1.2 billion vacationing abroad every year.

"Imagine if only ten percent of that sum is spent in Serbia. That's Eur 100 million. That's would be a huge incentive for our hospitality industry, but also for the entire economy and the country's finances," the prime minister concluded.
