BELGRADE Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic has said that Serbia must reduce its fiscal deficit, "or it will devour itself." According to him, "seven out of nice steps have been agreed to that effect," - i.e., toward a reduction of the fiscal deficit. "Experts, IMF will back measures; most people won't" "The government will present a program for those measures in two weeks at the latest," he noted, adding that "experts, the IMF and other international institution would support them, but quite certainly not the majority of the people." "Still, I am convinced that we are doing a good thing for the country. We will change laws on labour, planning and construction and licences and finally finish that story by the end of 2013, after 15 years," he told the daily Blic. There is also work on reforming the pension system and it is important to create a sound foundation for pensions to grow while not reducing them in the process, he stated. He said there were still efforts to lower the labour tax while not putting more load on the people and their property. As for foreign investors, Mercedes is close to a deal with the bus maker Ikarbus, he pointed out. "I think we are not far from Mercedes also entering Fabrika Automobila Priboj, which is very important for the entire southwest Serbia," he said, adding that there were hopes that other companies would come too, like Takata and Mubadala. Vucic also noted that Bosch would open a plant with 600 jobs in Pecinci in November. "The subsidies for foreign investors for creating new jobs will remain, but they may be reduced, which would save a lot of money," he said. (Tanjug, file) Blic Tanjug
