Despite the fact that top government officials have downplayed her statements, Finance Minister Diana Dragutinovic continues to insist on taxation changes. She once again mentioned her plans for increasing the Value Added Taxes (VATs) and decreasing the taxes on wages at a recent economic forum in Mokra Gora. Minister insists on new taxes Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic’s economic team has stated that such moves would require a consensus within the government and that Dragutinovic is well aware of the fact that such a consensus over tax reforms does not exist. The proposal calls for increasing VATs and decreasing taxes on wages. She also adds that it would be best for Serbia to de-stimulate spending and decrease tax burdens on the economy. Speaking on investments in infrastructure, Dragutinovic said that the state will spend RSD 108bn on it, adding that this sum is twice as large as it was several years ago and that the government must decide what sectors will be of priority.
