Labor Minister Rasim Ljajic said that he does not expect new strikes, and announced that social dialogue with unions would be intensified. “It is important for the measures which are being proposed by the government to be understood and accepted,” Ljajic told Novi Sad daily Dnevnik. I am convinced that it is better to continue those types of measures and savings instead of decreasing pensions or increasing taxes,” Ljajic said. He said that the government needs to prepare a clear plan for reforming the pension system by February 2010, which is the next time the International Monetary Fund will be sending a mission to Serbia. The goal of the pension reforms, Ljajic said, should be to have pensions decreased from 13 to 10 percent of the gross domestic product by 2015.
