Gazpromneft President Aleksandr Dyukov says that the Serbian Oil Industry’s (NIS) price is not the most important thing. In an interview with daily Politika, Dyukov said that he believed that the interstate agreement signed in the Kremlin on January 25 could not be amended. Gazpromneft: NIS price not critical He was equally explicit when it came to the size of the investment in NIS, stressing that the Russians were prepared to pay more--at least another EUR 500mn, which would be invested in modernizing the company. The Gazpromneft president said that the sale price of EUR 400mn was just one element in a series of bigger and long-term agreements. He said that the ongoing negotiations over concluding the sales-and-purchase agreement should define and clarify many specific issues, such as NIS’ debt and the company’s modernization for it to become competitive ahead of the forthcoming liberalization of the Serbian market in 2010. Dyukov said the price for the 51 percent stake in NIS was based on studies carried out by independent financial consultants, and that the price had been agreed with the Serbian government and was quoted in the binding agreement.
