EC, Serbia talk agriculture He told the meeting—part of the framework for enhancing dialogue on agriculture, food safety and fishing—that domestic laws needed to be harmonized with European ones so that the state could raise standards in the provinces, and speed up European integration processes. The goal of the reforms, according to Dragin, is to help Serbian farmers to make a good living from their work by applying systematic solutions covering the sectors of production, processing and placement. The minister thanked EC officials for their help and support in enabling domestic agriculture to be ready to become part of the common European agricultural policy. EC officials stated that they were pleased with the efforts and reform results that Serbia had achieved in the areas under discussion. They stressed that the agricultural sector was one of the most difficult chapters for accession talks that lay in wait for Serbia on her path to fully-fledged EU membership. The themes of the two-day meeting in Belgrade will include a review of Serbia’s progress in harmonizing its laws in the fields of agricultural and rural development, fishing and food safety. There will also be discussion of administrative and institutional capacities for implementing laws within the ministry and institutions, as well as a presentation of plans for applying the Serbian National EU Integration Program in the field of agriculture.
