The construction of the Pan-European Oil Pipeline will go ahead after the signing of long-term agreements on its use, Serbian officials say. This will require intensive work over the next year, during which time Serbia will chair the Interstate Oil Pipeline Committee, Assistant Mining and Energy Minister Slobodan Sokolovic said in Belgrade Wednesday. Deal on pan-European pipeline urged "The financial construction is not a problem for the construction, because the benefits of the project open up possibilities for securing funds," Sokolovic told reporters following a meeting of the Interstate Committee, attended by representatives from Croatia, Italy, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia. According to him, the section of the pipeline through Serbia will be between 250 and 300-kilometer long, while projects and feasibility studies submitted so far envisage a corridor to pass through Vojvodina. The construction of the 1,400-kilometer pipeline, with an estimated annual capacity of between 60 and 90 million tons, should cost about USD 3.5bn.
