Serbia, Gazprom to clinch NIS deal by end of week

A delegation from Russia's Gazprom will meet a Serbian government team by the end of this week. They will go over the details of an agreement Belgrade and Moscow signed in January, that include the sale of Serbia's oil monopoly NIS to the Russian oil and gas giant Gazprom. Serbia, Gazprom to clinch NIS deal by end of week NIS CEO Srdjan Bosnjakovic confirmed that the meeting will take place. "The Russian delegation is scheduled to arrive this week and we expect to start negotiations of the NIS sale," he told journalists in Belgrade today. Bosnjakovic added that he did not expect these talks to take a long time, since both sides "will show good intentions". The energy sector agreement includes the sale of NIS, construction of a section of the South Stream pipeline through Serbia, and final works on the construction of the underground natural gas depot in Banatski Dvor, Vojvodina. A separate protocol regulates the sale of NIS, according to which Gazprom will acquire a 51 percent stake in the company for USD 400mn, and invest a further USD 500mn by 2012.
