Speaker Oliver Dulic said today the parliament will not debate the 2008 budget draft on Monday. The reason for dropping the item from the parliamentary agenda is the government's decision to withdraw the proposal. Government withdraws budget draft Dulic explained that the draft will instead make it to the December 10 session, as there are "a couple of points that need to be corrected first". The speaker told reporters in Belgrade today that he discussed this with Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and Finance Minister Mirko Cvetkovic. "It's about things that took place in the meanwhile, from the moment the government adopted the draft, until today," Dulic was vague. But these as yet unclear changes were apparently discussed today in parliament between Cvetkovic and parliamentary party group leaders. "It is of paramount importance that the state does not opt for temporary financing, as there is no reason for this," Dulic also said. The deadline for the parliament to adopt the state revenues and expenditure document is December 15. The government had difficulty adopting the now withdrawn proposal, which it finally managed on November 12, almost two weeks behind the legal deadline.
