The Judiciary Union has rejected the government’s proposal and is continuing its strike. The government proposed 2,000 judiciary employees to be made redundant, with wages increases for the remaining employees of 30 percent. Judiciary strike continues, causes budget losses Union President Slavica Zivanovic told B92 that the government’s offer was shameful and offensive, adding that the union would not turn its back on any of its employees. “We are getting support for rejecting the offer from all areas of our membership, so the blockade of the courts will continue. We have a meeting on Thursday, and we will continue a blockade with minimum work hours, but on Thursday we will take a decision on whether to stop working completely,” Zivanovic said. The union has been on strike for nine days, demanding 100 percent wage increases. But this would run contrary to the government's declared policy of decreasing the dangerously high public spending figures. Also Wednesday, Belgrade daily Glas Javnosti looked at the strike from another angle and reported that the it has incurred millions of dinars worth of damages in uncollected court taxes. The Serbian budget has suffered losses that go into millions of dinars at this point, as court employees do not collect on taxes. The situation is best illustrated by the fact that the Belgrade First and Second Municipal Courts alone have in October made RSD 72mn, while the Fourth collected more than RSD 3mn. Now this revenue has been either decimated or completely lost.
