Bozidar Djelic says that Telekom Serbia could be the first public enterprise to list at the Belgrade Stock Exchange (BSE). The deputy prime minister said that, for public enterprises to be quoted on the stock exchange, a number of laws had to be passed, including those on transformation of ownership, free distribution of shares to citizens, as well as an amendment to the Law on Securities. Djelic: Telekom to enter stock exchange Once these laws have been adopted, all the conditions will have been met, said Djelic, although he could not specify exactly when that would take place. Experts believe that, as long as the public enterprises are absent from the stock exchange, domestic investors will not have enough reliable securities to invest in, and will look to invest abroad instead. Public enterprises, such as NIS, Telekom, Elektroprivreda Srbije (Serbian Electricity), and Nikola Tesla Airport provide a foundation for building capital, as they are companies that institutional investors are most interested in, says the stock exchange. In their opinion, the main aim is for the privatization process to be completed as soon as possible, while the aim of the economic development strategy is to provide the market, as well as legal, conditions for privatizing companies with state capital. The BSE cannot influence the timing of the decision, nor can it forecast when and if certain companies will go public. In the opinion of the experts, the introduction of the aforementioned companies would have a great bearing on the development of new financial institutions in Serbia, as well as on the emergence of new professions.
